Actually, there aren't many frequently asked questions. Most people have no problem at all. If your question isn't answered here, send an e-mail to greg@subaqua.co.uk.
DivePlan won't install on my Nokia 9210/9290 Communicator.
Do you have an old firmware revision? You need v4.13 or later. You can get your phone upgraded at any Nokia service centre.
Re-installing/upgrading DivePlan on my P800 gives an "In Use" error.
The P800 is not very good at shutting down applications (this is why you have to turn your phone off as part of the backup process). Simply try again and it will work second time.
Installing DivePlan on my Vodafone Nokia 6630 gives an "Installation security error".
Vodafone have installed software which prevents unapproved software being installed. You can disable this as follows: Go to Tools, then Manager where all your installed apps are shown, select installed applications, and go to options, settings, change "software installation" from "signed" to "on".
DivePlan won't install on my SonyEricsson P800. I get an error about "UIQ 2.0"
Do you have an old firmware revision? Very old firmware revisions (typically supplied on pre-release handsets) do not have the application signing code installed. You either need to get your phone's firmware updated at your nearest SonyEricsson service centre or contact me for an "unsigned" version.
How long does it take to get a registration code.
I check my e-mail several times a day, so codes are normally sent out within a couple of hours. If I am going to be away (diving!) for more than a couple of days, I'll leave a note on the website saying when I'll be back.
My registration code doesn't work. It says "wrong code".
Either you or I have made a typo. Send me an e-mail confirming your machine's ID and I will reconfirm your registration code.
I upgraded from v2.xx to v3.xx and now it is asking me for a new registration code.
There was a change in the way registration codes are calculated between v2.11 and v3.00. This was caused by Symbian changing the way that device serial numbers are accessed. Please get in touch for a free reg code.
I upgraded from v2.xx to v3.xx and now all I get is a blank screen.
Use the menu to set the zoom level and toolbar visibility to bring them back.
My machine died and I had to buy a new one. Do I have to pay for a new registration code?
Probably not. Send me an e-mail with details.
On my P800, it forgets the registration code every time I turn my phone off.
This is a known bug and will be fixed in v3.05. You can force the code to be saved by 1) Opening DivePlan, 2) Entering the registration code, 3) Opening all the other applications on the phone, viewing large documents, etc. This causes the P800 to close DivePlan to reclaim the memory it was using, and this causes the registration code to be saved. You only need to do this once.
On my Nokia 6600, the application closes when I try to view the registration page
This was fixed on 2005-06-02. If you downloaded an earlier version, you need to download the latest one.
I can't get DivePlan to use oxygen at my 6m deco stop.
DivePlan chooses deco gases based on the max ppO2 settings for each deco gas. If your altitude/surface air pressure values are greater than one bar, then the ppO2 at 6m will be greater 1.6, which is higher than the default setting. Change the setting for that gas to something like 1.65.
I get a "Corrupt" message when I start DivePlan, and then it closes.
The data file that stores your dive profile and other settings contains invalid data. EIKON and CRYSTAL allow you to have a number of data files and open the most recently used one by default. UIQ and SERIES60 have only one, which is c:\documents\DivePlan\DivePlan. If you delete the file, a new one will be created with default values. If possible, please send me a copy of the file before you delete it.
Can I print the deco schedules on a printer?
Printing works on the EIKON version and is a bit flaky on the CRYSTAL version. It is generally better to copy (control-c) and paste into the word processor and print from there. This allows you to choose fonts, layout, etc. The SERIES60 and UIQ environments do not support printing at all.
Will you add new features or change something I don't like?
I will certainly consider it. Most requests get added eventually. Some of the more popular requests are listed beloew.
Will you add an option to set the last deco stop to 4.5m or 15'?
No. The 4.5m stop idea came from IANTD training courses, as a means of limiting oxygen exposure and protecting students with poor buoyancy control. It is an ineffective depth for decompression. If you are using a decompression gas, then 6m/20' is better due to the high partial pressure of oxygen. If you are not using a decompression gas, then 3m/10' is better as the pressure gradient is now driving the decompression.
Will you add CNS% and OTU calculations?
These calculations were included in an earlier version of DivePlan. I took them out because the ideas behind them are now outdated, and management of oxygen exposure can be much better controlled through the use of "air breaks". However, these calculations are still included in some nitrox/trimix training courses, so I will include them in a future release.
Will you add Pyle stops?
I'm not sure that Richard even uses these himself any more. Since people have asked I will include it eventually, but it is a low priority.
What's with the fish icon/logo?
I like fish. This one is a photo of my favourite cuddly toy!
